Why the fynbos within and surrounding
Rooiels is so important to us

Rooiels lies within the Cape Floral Kingdom on the eastern sea shores of False Bay, 75 kilometres
from Cape Town, South Africa.

The village is found in the shadow of Kogelberg’s iconic Klein Hangklip mountain and is regarded as
the entry point into the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve (KBR), a World Heritage site.

Rooiels, together with the pristine Rooiels River estuary and the surrounding fynbos biome are
unique in their natural diversity.

Collecting details of the flora and fauna in the fynbos surrounding Rooiels has been our passion for
many years.

This website is our collection of the flora and fauna of the Rooiels Fynbos. By sharing our collection,
we hope that this will not only assist with the conservation, but also the enjoyment of this amazing
plant and animal life for the benefit of all.

While every effort has been made to be accurate with the identification details of the flora and fauna,
this website is “work in progress”. Should you wish to provide input regarding the flora and fauna,
please send us a message.
