Information

Spoon Sundew

According to Wikipedia, Drosera glabripes is a sundew plant that is native to the Western Cape of South Africa. It is a stem-forming plant with a rosette of leaves at the end of a long stem.
Characteristics:
The name Drosera glabripes refers to its smooth surface
The plant has hairless petioles and spoon-shaped laminae
The stem can grow to be over 50 cm long
The plant grows in well-drained niches on steep slopes
The plant has deep roots that allow it to grow year-round
How it traps insects:
The plant has modified trichomes that secrete droplets of water and polysaccharides
The droplets attract insects that are looking for sugary substances
The insects become trapped in the sticky droplets and are unable to fly away
The droplets envelop the insect and obstruct its respiratory holes, causing it to suffocate
