Erica viscaria ssp. longifolia

Information

Longleaf Heath, Roughpetal Heath Complex

Erica Viscaria ssp. longifolia has long, rigid and sharp-tipped leaves (longifolia). The tubular flowers 12 – 22 mm long are slightly constricted at the mouth. The flowers are usually bunched together at ends of branches. In our area they are mostly yellow, but elsewhere they can be orange, pink, and purple. Erica Viscaria ssp. longifolia is endemic to the Western Cape. It grows on the sandy mountain slopes of Klein-Hangklip and Rooiels Mountain and is pollinated by one sunbird species, the orange-breasted sunbird.
