It is a member of the Bruniaceae family and also known as the Rooistompie in Afrikaans. It is distributed from the Hottentots Holland Mountains through to Kleinmond in the Overberg where it grows on sandstone slopes. Berzelia stoekoei is named after the plant collector Thomas Pearson Stokoe. It's striking red blooms are often used in the cut flower industry. Flowering time is from November through to April.
